Meet our craftsman, Israel Colin.

We first met Israel at the end of 2022. We were looking for someone to make our prototypes and knew he was the man for the job the minute we saw his work.

Since then, we’ve worked on numerous pieces together. In May, he was met with a scary cancer diagnosis, and it would be an understatement to say that he didn’t let that get him down. His perseverance and dedication to his craft, while overcoming his diagnosis is remarkable to witness. We’re so grateful for his commitment to helping Kennedy Graham Home bring unique and beautiful furniture into the world.

So today, we wanted to shine a spotlight on an amazing craftsman and friend. We hope you enjoy getting to know him a little better:

Q: Where did you grow up?
A: Mexico City

Q: Favorite place to travel?
A: Florida

Q: Favorite food?
A: Anything – the spicier the better

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Playing soccer with my neighborhood friends

Q: Can you tell me a little bit about your journey to becoming a craftsman? When and how did you get into woodworking?
A: I began working with wood at the early age of 15…it wasn’t until I turned 18 that I had a passion for woodworking when I began to make dining tables and coffee tables by hand. I then began to work with Spanish T.V. and building stage sets where I started to learn how to art and design. I came to the States with years of experience and have worked alongside great companies where my talents were used to create pieces for top designers in Chicago. I currently own my business with my amazing wife, who helps administratively and with translation.

Q: What do you enjoy most about creating furniture?
A: Looking at the final product and knowing it is genuine and unique brings me great pride.

Q: What was the first piece that you were truly proud of?
A: With a small team (2), we built a console table that can be found at the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield, IL. It was built by hand, with intricate details, using mahogany wood. The console table can be found underneath the huge frame of Abraham Lincoln.

Q: What’s something you wish more people knew about woodworking?
A: To understand the actual beauty of handmade woodworking and the value it holds.

Q: What are some of your favorite things to do or hobbies outside of woodworking?
A: Dancing, love all types of music, and big soccer fan.

Q: How much of the furniture in your house did you make?
A: Dining table – but my wife wants me to build her a house hahahaha :)
